eAdventist had a “Church Directory” report that provided the roster information “by family” — as exported data only. We didn’t include a printed PDF report since most churches want a layout that reflects their unique style and needs rather than a “vanilla” layout.
We have just added a “by person” option and included “vanilla” printed PDF reports for both options. If you like “vanilla”, your work is almost done. If you prefer more exotic flavors, use the “vanilla” layout for proofing. You can still mix your own flavor for publishing using the exported data and layout tool of your choice (e.g. Word, Excel, InDesign, Publisher).
You can now upload image files for your organizations again. eAdventist will automatically resize them, if necessary.
eAdventist used to include a link to Ancestry.com that provided free searching of the Social Security Death Index. This was a very handy tool for clerks. Several clerks noticed that it is no longer available and wondered why.
The data in the Social Security Death Index is public data provided by the government. Ancestry.com provided a web search of that data. As of December 18, 2011, they chose to move the service behind a “paywall” because of its potential use for identity theft (ABC News).
Ancestry.com still offers SSDI searching, you just have to pay for an account to access it. At this point, they only offer single-user accounts so we will not be able to purchase a “group” account for eAdventist users. We aren’t aware of any other sites that offer a similar service.
Does your church also use another membership database, like CMD or Servant Keeper? If so, you know how challenging it is to keep two databases in sync. You probably wish that eAdventist would just email you whenever one of your records changes.
There is actually a more efficient solution in eAdventist that won’t flood your inbox. The “FURs by Change Date” report allows you to print an families that have changed in a date range that you choose (e.g. 12/1/2010 to 12/31/2011). The report doesn’t indicate which items have changed but is laid out in a easy-to-read format so that you can scan it quickly.
“FURs by Change Date” lets you check for changes as often as you want and even lets you check for older changes that you may have missed.
